23 Sep Tag Social Media Properties Correctly [DhariLo Social Media Tip]
Tagging the social media accounts of others can be a great way to gain visibility, begin engagement within brands, and reach a new audience, but only if you tag the correct social media property.
Be careful when tagging brands or people you mention. Not everyone has the convenience of obtaining the same handle across all social media profiles, and others may have changed their handles since you last looked, so just double check yourself before using a handle. Some other things to consider when tagging others are:
- What network you are writing your messaging for – on some networks, tagging only alerts the user that they have been mentioned, while on other networks (such as Facebook) tagging exposes that piece of content to include some of the audience of who ever, or what ever brand you mentioned.
- Is the brand social? – some brands are active on social media and will retweet or repost content they get tagged in, while others may just respond directly, or ignore you. It’s worth a shot!
- Will using a hashtag be more beneficial? – in some instances, a hashtag will get you further than tagging, and save you characters.
Do you have any examples of a time tagging a brand resulted in further reach or engagement?
