15 Jul Captivate Advocates and Influencers [DhariLo Social Media Tip Tuesday: Tip 16]
Advocates and influencers are some of the most powerful tools a brand can have. Consumers are more likely to try a product or service based on recommendations from friends, and online, your advocates and influencers are their friends!
Advocates are folks who love your brand, product, or believe in the same ideas you stand for. Advocates have a passion for your brand, and will enthusiastically recommend you to friends and family
Influencers can also be advocates, but the difference is that their audience is larger and they usually require compensation such as free product. Think of an awesome mommy blogger who may do a review of your product.
Both are greatly beneficial. An influencer with a receptive audience will cause a buzz and drive traffic to you, but then it is up to you (and your awesome content and brand) to capture these new people. You usually have to seek influencers out, and they may not be as passionate about your brand as an advocate. Now, advocates may not have throngs of followers but these are the people who (without coaxing) share your product news, or tweet to you about how yummy your cupcakes are and get friends to try your product. Interact with them! Thank them, highlight their self inspired blog post about you- just keep the love going back and forth. Like I’ve mentioned many times before, show your audience you care and that you are listening.
If you are having some trouble finding your advocates, find an influencer who is passionate about your industry, or type of product. Make sure their audience is into the same things as yours. This could be a great avenue to find some advocates in the crowd!
