Why You Should Post Social Media Content On The Weekend And What To Post

Social media never turns off. In a 24/7 environment, no matter what industry your business is in, posting social media content on the weekend and late night can be beneficial to your social media efforts.

Why Post On Weekends

After work and on the weekend are great times to post because people are relaxing and browsing social networks at their own pace and without restrictions. Think about your own weekend and how you digest information and content. You aren’t being rushed by a deadline, or pulled off into a meeting. Since people are more relaxed they may even have time to dedicate to posting a comment or two. This makes weekends a good opportunity to capitalize on engaging with your audience and building tactics to build stronger relationships with them.

What To Share

Weekends are great days for sharing more laid back posts. This can be your time to get creative and show more personality for your brand or business. It can be a good time to try a micro-blog style post, share lifestyle content and posts that engage your audience. Here are some ideas on what you can post:

Neighborhood Highlights

Brick and mortar business, or brands targeting a specific area can use posting social media content on the weekend to highlight the neighborhood they’re in. This kind of content can help you connect with potential customers in your area. Be sure to tag your location on Instagram and use local hashtags when possible for more exposure.

Audience Engagement Posts

Weekends are the perfect time for asking your followers questions and try to get them to interact with you. Start integrating simple questions into your captions. Open ended questions usually encourage followers to get a bit more involved, but questions can be short, or even a poll. You may get no answers at first but keep at it (maybe get some employees to answer to get the ball rolling).

 

Lifestyle Content

Your lifestyle content brings your buyer persona “to life” in a sense – it highlights interests beyond your product or brand. Like building any relationship, find out what overall interests, or personality traits your target consumer has that fall in line with your brand and create content to appeal to that part of them. Lifestyle content can include company culture, a peek into a day in the life etc. To learn more about lifestyle content click here. Part of my target audience is entrepreneurs and bloggers like myself, and if you’re either know you can connect to how draining in can be – and how much coffee you need to power you through. I used this part of my life to connect with the audience I’d like to attract.

Round Ups

Round ups can make great weekend social media content. You can share the top content from your blog for the week, highlight some of your favorite user generated content or an interesting photos posted from influencers or related brands.

Use Instagram As A Micro-blog

Last week I mentioned using Instagram as a micro blog. The weekend makes perfect testing time for this format. These are long form posts are formatted to read like a blog post.

What might you be able to micro-blog about on Instagram?

Behind the scenes: As always behind the scenes content is great because you give followers access to activities they have no access to otherwise.

Tutorials and tips: Teach your audience a mini lesson, share a quick tip or walk them through a process step by step.

Round ups: Put the Instagram and Facebook slide shows to work and use multiple images on Twitter to create a little round up.

 

Posting social media content on the weekend can seem a little daunting but that’s when a content calendar and automation come in handy. The key to figuring out what to post on the weekend is to think about your target audience, and how their interests and yours cross. Remain authentic to yourself, and your brand when sharing lifestyle content in order to attract people that will be authentically interested in your business. Remember to try some late night posts and see how they do as well.
